In Summary: The speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Ms Rebecca Kadaga and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda Dr. Louis Kasekende will join other eminent personalities from the East African Community (EAC) member states, the United States, and others from around the globe to grace the 2016 annual conference of the East African Chamber of Commerce (EACC) in Dallas, Texas, USA. Convening under the theme ‘accelerating growth’, the 3-day EACC 9th trade conference opens on Thursday September 29 to October 01, 2016 at the Sheraton by the Galleria in Dallas, Texas. Ms Rebecca Kadaga will lead a delegation of MPs and officials from Parliament and government ministries to engage and woo the international and EAC Diaspora business and professional communities to enhance and accelerate their business investments and professional operations in the EAC region. Speaker Kadaga is the second highest ranking political leader from the six EAC member states to participate in EACC activities after Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta who visited the chamber in 2013.  Dr. Louis Kasekende, the Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda will headline a high-profile round table discussion on Finance and Real Estate at the conference.

Dallas, Texas—The speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Ms Rebecca Kadaga and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda Dr. Louis Kasekende will join other eminent personalities from the East African Community (EAC), the United States, and others from around the globe to grace the 2016 conference of the East African Chamber of Commerce (EACC) in Dallas, Texas, organizers of the annual event confirmed here Saturday. Convening under the theme ‘accelerating growth’, the 3-day EACC 9th trade Conference opens this Thursday September 29 to October 01, 2016 at the Sheraton by the Galleria in Dallas, Texas. Ms Rebecca Kadaga will lead a delegation of MPs and officials from Parliament and government ministries to the 3-day conference to engage and woo the international and EAC Diaspora business and professional communities to enhance and accelerate their business investments and professional operations in the EAC region.

Speaker Kadaga is the second highest ranking political leader from the EAC member states to participate in EACC activities after Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta who visited the chamber in 2013. Dr. Louis Kasekende, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda will, among other activities, headline a high-profile panel on Finance and real estate on Friday, according to the program released by conference organizers.

The 9-year old East Africa Chamber of Commerce (EACC) is a no-profit organization formed to advance social and economic development between businesses, institutions and government agencies in both the USA and the East African Community (EAC) region.  The organization includes members from Diaspora communities who are natives of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and most recently, South Sudan. Countries within the Eastern African region including Ethiopia and Sudan have expressed interest to join the chamber, according to the EACC executive led by Elsa Juko-McDowell, the first woman elected last year to lead the chamber.

Ms Rebecca Kadaga arrives in Dallas on Thursday morning and heads straight to the University of Texas at Dallas   (UTD) for the opening events of the conference, headline, and participate in several round table discussions on trade and government hosted by the Naveen Jindal School of Management, organizers said. Working on a tight schedule, Speaker Kadaga is expected to lead some members of her delegation to visit and tour the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waxahachie near Dallas on Friday morning. The TSTC implements a technical training model identified by a group of Ugandan scholars based in Texas as a good fit for adoption by Uganda in its efforts to equip the unemployed youths with skills to become job creators.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will also headline the women forum featuring Uganda’s Ambassador to the US Ms Olive Wonekha; Beth Plume, a prominent lawyer in Dallas and advisor to the EACC Board; Juko-McDowell, EACC chairwoman; and other Prominent Women from the EAC region, the USA, and other parts of the world. Elected as the first woman Speaker of Parliament in Uganda and Africa in 2011, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, an eloquent and erstwhile advocate for women rights is an inspiring role model for female professionals and activists.  The first woman lawyer to open a private chamber in Uganda, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, holding the third most powerful political office in Uganda,  is also lined-up as one of the three guest speakers during the EACC dinner-gala, the climax of the annual conference, on Saturday October 01. The keynote speaker at the gala will be the former President of the African Development Bank (ADB) Dr. Donald Kaberuka, former finance Minister of Rwanda and currently a Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

During the Finance and Real Estate panel, Dr. Louis Kasekende, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda (BOU) is expected to shed light on how central banks in the EAC region are harmonizing their financial policies to enhance regional integration in the interconnected global economy, organizers of the conference said.   The Finance and Real Estate  panel, moderated by property mogul Mr. Gabriel Shumba, will also feature Mr. Farouk Sheik, CEO Investec;  Mr. Morris Njagi of Stima Investment; and Kadi Konate, the Chief Finance Officer of  Tinto Minerals.
