IRVING, Texas— The countdown is over. Business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, policymakers, and community stakeholders from across the United States and East Africa are converging in Irving, Texas, for what promises to be one of the most influential regional business events of the year. The East Africa Business Network (EABN) 21st Annual Conference and Gala is officially underway, celebrating more than two decades of fostering entrepreneurship, building international partnerships, and creating economic opportunities across continents.

Hosted at the prestigious Westin Irving Convention Center, the milestone event combines high-level business discussions, investment forums, technology conversations, cultural showcases, networking opportunities, and an elegant anniversary gala.

After 21 years of connecting businesses, communities, and leaders, organizers describe this year's gathering as more than a conference. “It is a celebration of resilience, innovation, and the power of collaboration,” the EABN chairlady Elsa Juko-McDowell told the EADM over the phone on Tuesday.

Activities kick off this Friday evening with delegate registration followed by a networking cocktail reception at 5:00 p.m., where business executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and exhibitors will begin forging new relationships and exploring potential partnerships.

The opening reception will feature welcoming remarks and presentations from EABN partners, setting the stage for a weekend focused on economic growth, innovation, and cross-border collaboration.

According to Benson Kioko Kasue, a founding member of the EABN, “for vendors and exhibitors, the conference provides a rare opportunity to place products and services directly before a diverse and influential audience representing multiple industries and markets.” Saturday's activities begin early as the conference exhibition opens and delegates gather for a morning of dialogue and inspiration.

Irving International Affairs Director Joe E. Lopez, Irving Deputy Mayor Dennis Webb, and Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge.

The official opening ceremony, scheduled for 9:00 a.m., will feature remarks from Irving International Affairs Director Joe E. Lopez, Irving Deputy Mayor Dennis Webb, and Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge.

Their participation underscores the growing importance of international business partnerships and the expanding economic connections between East Africa and the United States.

One of the most anticipated sessions of the day will focus on business financing, investment, and wealth creation.

Presented under the theme: "Fund It. Grow It. Scale It. Sell It. List It."

The forum will explore opportunities in real estate investment, capital markets, entrepreneurship, and community development. Business owners and aspiring investors will hear from experts discussing strategies for expanding enterprises, accessing capital, and creating sustainable growth across borders.

“With real estate, venture capital, and international trade continuing to evolve rapidly, spirited discussions and valuable insights for entrepreneurs seeking to scale their businesses are expected to highlight the session,” one of the excited registered attendees told me.

Saturday’s momentum will continue with one of the conference's signature events: Women Connecting: Building Wealth, Wellness & Legacy. The luncheon will bring together four accomplished women leaders who will share personal stories, professional lessons, and practical strategies for achieving success while creating lasting impact.

Participants can expect candid discussions about entrepreneurship, financial empowerment, leadership, health, and the importance of building legacies that extend beyond business success.

“This session is designed to inspire the next generation of leaders while celebrating the achievements of women who continue to shape industries and communities,” Mrs. Elsa Juko-McDowell told me.

As artificial intelligence transforms industries worldwide, technology will take center stage during the afternoon forum titled: "Navigating the AI Economy." The session is expected to feature cloud computing architect Abbey Ggwayambadde, along with technology experts examining how artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, automation, and emerging digital technologies are reshaping modern business.

Participants will gain insight into how organizations can leverage innovation to remain competitive in an increasingly digital marketplace while preparing for future economic opportunities. From startups to established enterprises, the technology forum is expected to spark conversations about the next generation of business growth.

As day transitions into evening, excitement will build for the conference's signature event, the 21st Anniversary Gala, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Guests arriving on the red carpet will be welcomed into an evening that blends business excellence with cultural celebration.

Serving as Masters of Ceremony will be Daniel Engole (President UAA-Greater DFW) and Texas-based Attorney Laban Opande, while DJ Robi Oigo will provide the soundtrack for the evening and Bandan Koro will deliver vibrant African musical entertainment.

The gala will officially open with welcoming remarks from EABN Chairlady Elsa Juko-McDowell, followed by an invocation from Pastor Dr. Karen Henry. The evening will continue with the playing of both the East African and United States national anthems before transitioning into a fashion showcase directed by Angela and featuring Tekai Fashion Show productions.

Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge

The gala's keynote diplomatic address will be delivered by the ebullient Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge, who is expected to highlight the growing importance of international cooperation, trade and investment opportunities, and the expanding relationship between East Africa and American businesses. Following the ambassador's address, guests will enjoy an elegant dinner accompanied by live performances from Kenya's Mulembe Divas.

A special presentation from Truist, one of the event's major sponsors, will follow before renown Rwandan musician Nel Ngabo takes the stage.

The evening's keynote speaker, Dr. Kenny Harless of Unicity, will challenge attendees to think bigger, lead boldly, and pursue excellence in health, business,  and wellness. Entertainment will continue with performances from celebrated artists William Atur of South Sudan and Savaa Karim of Uganda, creating a powerful cultural finale to an already memorable evening.

As closing remarks conclude the formal program, the dance floor will open, inviting guests to celebrate twenty-one years of achievement, partnership, and progress long into the night.

For EABN, the weekend represents more than a series of sessions and speeches. It is a testament to two decades of creating opportunities, empowering entrepreneurs, fostering innovation, and building bridges between nations, communities, and industries. As hundreds of delegates gather in Irving, one message resonates throughout the conference halls: The future of business belongs to those willing to connect, collaborate, and create opportunities beyond borders.

With thought-provoking discussions, meaningful networking, cultural celebration, and forward-looking conversations on finance, technology, and leadership, the 21st Annual EABN Conference is poised to leave a lasting impact on all who attend. Be there, or be square!
